About Sonia

My life has been shaped by many worlds.

Sonia Duggal Headshot

Born into a multicultural, multireligious household and later expanded by years of living and working across different parts of the globe, I carry the stories, languages, values, and spiritual threads of many cultures. Today I bring all of that into my work as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the Bay Area — supporting individuals, couples, parents, and families through the complexities of life, identity, relationships, and emotional well-being.

This background allows me to meet clients with genuine openness and humility — attuned to the many ways culture, family, trauma, migration, and belonging shape who we are and how we connect.

Parenting three young adults has been one of my greatest teachers outside the therapy room. It has deepened my understanding of family life, transitions, and the way relationships shift and evolve across a lifetime.

What you can expect from me: warmth, curiosity, and a grounded presence — helping you make sense of your inner world while navigating everything around you.

Whatever you are carrying, I am here to meet you with care, steadiness, and respect.

My Credentials

B.A in Sociology, Inter-Cultural and Organizational Communication Studies

MS in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling

Currently acquiring my certification in Child Parent Psychotherapy for ages 0-7 years

My clinical background includes work in intensive outpatient programs, elementary and high schools, and private practice.

This diversity allows me to meet my clients with clinical depth, developmental insight, and attunement to the realities of both corporate environments and international living.

My Therapeutic Style

My therapeutic style is warm, relational, yet direct and strengths-based. I believe that healing occurs through connection, attunement, curiosity, and an environment where clients feel seen, safe and valued and are to be able to tolerate and accept a challenge to increase their capacity to grow.

I integrate a variety of evidence-based modalities, including:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

The Gottman Method
